Our core values:
Michael Argento, CPA, CGA
Michael has always shown keen interest in how business works and what is most important to run a successful business. “When it came time to choose a career I knew I wanted to run my own company. The hard part was deciding which type of business to run. I knew my interest in business weighed in learning about the strategy and calculations side, then it hit me, accounting and consulting was without a doubt what I wanted to study in school. Helping others maximize profits and run their business to be financially successful is what I was passionate to achieve. I thought why not go to school to learn about how to run a business, from a strategic and calculated side, then help others with running their business.”
Michael studied at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) where he achieved his Diploma of Technology, Bachelor of Technology, Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified General Accountant (CGA) distinction. After the first year of his diploma he was awarded a scholarship from a midsize accounting firm for “Highest Marks in Computerized Accounting.” His teacher at BCIT had put his name in for the scholarship and he was interviewed and hired “right on the spot.”
He began working for a midsize accounting firm in their Client Services department which focuses primarily on small business clients and personal tax returns. After completing all of the requirements for his Chartered Professional Accountant designation Michael set up his own practice that was tailored to the needs of small business, startup entrepreneurs and individual taxes.
Helping entrepreneurs through the technicalities of running a company is Michael’s number one goal. Most people are not familiar with tax concepts and require guidance regarding the financial side of their business. Michael’s objective is to save people time by assisting them with this side of the business, while leaving them more time to focus on what they are good at. Overall, this leads to greater efficiency and allows clients to save and earn more money. Michael enjoys giving his clients direction and strategies for their small business while ensuring they minimize taxes leaving more money in their pocket. When Michael is not working on his accounting practice, he spends his time boxing, practicing yoga, or going for hikes with his adventurous German Shepherd, Maayaa.
“The most satisfying part of my profession is watching my clients grow each year knowing that I am a part of their success.”
CONNECT WITH MICHAEL
Michelle Ratcliffe, CPA, CA, CPA(WA)
My name is Michelle Ratcliffe and I am the Tax Manager here at Argento CPA. I am a tax accountant with my Canadian CPA, CA and US (WA) CPA designations. I have 10 years of public practice experience in British Columbia and have worked for all sizes of firms; small, mid-size and one of the large national firms. I found that I enjoy the atmosphere and the hands-on experience of assisting owner-manager business owners at smaller accounting firms, which is one of the many reasons I came to Argento CPA.
My position prior to Argento CPA, was as a cross border tax specialist that assisted US citizens living in Canada with their US and Canadian tax filing requirements. I also managed a number of property development groups of companies and partnerships that had dealings in both the US and Canada.
I initially became an accountant because I enjoyed preparing my friends and family’s tax returns. I also wanted a career where I could either help people, animals or the environment and becoming a tax accountant was my way of giving back by helping with an unavoidable part of life that most people hate to even think about. I strive to do my best when assisting individuals and business owners with tax planning advice and their tax issues and to do so in a way that they can understand.
Outside work, I enjoy sewing, baking and being outdoors. In the summer, you will find me camping at lakes around BC and throughout the year, I attend outdoor bootcamp classes to stay fit. In the winter, I snowboard and try my best to go south for warmer weather. My love of travelling has aligned perfectly with Argento CPA’s business model and has made my dreams of spending my winters working from South and Central America come true.
Faith Numada is an International Tax Specialist with Argento CPA. Having worked at accounting firms for over 10 years, she found her niche helping clients with their US and Canadian tax returns. Faith enjoys connecting with clients and helping them navigate the complexities of cross-border tax in a way that is personable and attentive. To balance out all that left-brained thinking, outside of work Faith enjoys creative activities such as song-writing, music production, and story-building.
I joined Argento CPA to be part of a rewarding and innovative firm while furthering my accounting career. Working in this new generation of cloud accounting has resulted in gaining the freedom to work from anywhere, while still feeling so connected to such an enthusiastic and supportive team.
I studied business and accounting at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Having 15 plus years of experience in accounting in both the public and private sectors, and currently pursuing my CPB designation. I am happiest when working in a position that allows me to enjoy my passion for accounting and dealing with people!
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, keeping up to date on my shows, hanging out with friends and family, and spoiling my son’s dog Nova!
